Welcome to Walk With Us
Hi, I'm Richard Peterson and that's my wife, Elizabeth.
Were it not for the reconciliation we find in Jesus Christ, we’d be in the running for irreconcilable differences poster couple of the year. We love each other, but it’s the love God has poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that binds us together.
Elizabeth and I each came to faith in Christ in our pre-teen years, and as we compare stories, we marvel at the way God beckoned us like two magnets crossing paths. I love it when God’s plan comes together.
From high school I attended the Moody Bible Institute, but that was cut short by the Vietnam draft. Seeing Uncle Sam’s call was imminent, I enlisted in the US Navy—a decision that made all the difference. Elizabeth and I met at church while I was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. And no, neither of us remember the pastor’s message.
Elizabeth graduated from the University of South Carolina, majoring in English and Latin, and attended Columbia Bible College.

I was a newspaper reporter, feature writer, free-lance journalist, and am a retired Navy (active and reserve) and Air Force Reserve veteran.
Elizabeth was a high school Latin and English teacher before retirement. Post retirement, she continues to teach Latin students online.
I am a full-time caregiver for Elizabeth who has lived with multiple sclerosis since her diagnosis in 1995.
We both are in love with the mountains of Western North Carolina, especially in the summer away from the South Carolina heat.
